Romans 8:35-39: Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. 38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God’s love, what can separate you from it?  I believe there are many out there today that would try hard to come up with something that can separate them from the love of God.  It seems unnatural to answer that question with a simple, “nothing.”  It’s kind of like one of those trick questions on an exam.  You think you have the right answer but it seems way too simple to be right.  Maybe it’s because God’s love doesn’t make sense to the natural mind.  We have a hard time wrapping our minds around the love of God.

According to this passage, nothing can ever separate me from God’s love.  When the Apostle Paul writes this he is sure to include anything you could ever imagine that may separate you from God’s love and yet makes the statement, “I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.”  Now, if you have studied the life of Paul at all, or have even a partial understanding of who Paul was and the things he endured when he makes that kind of statement it’s clear that the answer to the questions is simply, NOTHING.

It doesn’t matter where you’re at today, quit beating yourself up over that area of your life that you failed in and understand that there is nothing that you can do that will make God stop loving you.  Even if you’ve completely turned your back to God, He still loves you.  All you have to do is change your direction and begin walking back towards Him, just like the Prodigal Son did (Luke 15:11), and the minute He sets His eyes on you, He will run to you with open arms.
