Ezekiel 37:1-14: The Lord took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with bones. 2 He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. 3 Then he asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?” “O Sovereign Lord,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.” 4 Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! 6 I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.'” 7 So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. 8 Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them. 9 Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.'” 10 So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army. 11 Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones represent the people of Israel. They are saying, ‘We have become old, dry bones—all hope is gone. Our nation is finished.’ 12 Therefore, prophesy to them and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 When this happens, O my people, you will know that I am the Lord. 14 I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live again and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done what I said. Yes, the Lord has spoken!”
During worship service last Sunday, the Lord reminded of this Scripture as He spoke these words to me, “It’s time to start speaking life into the dry bones of your life.” I’m not afraid to say I know He was speaking directly to me but I know this is for many others out there. As I began to read the passage above it began to speak to me.
What are dry bones? Dry bones are those things in your life that you’ve either allowed to die, things you’ve forgotten about, or things that have died that you have no control over. I’m going to be very transparent with you and tell you there have been times that have been a struggle because I long to be in full time ministry. We stepped out of our full time ministry positions in order to move to where God was calling us. We believed then and still believe now that this is where God has called us to during this season of our lives and have no doubt that we are called to full time ministry. As I was thinking about this last Sunday and about how much I desire to do what God has called me to do, that’s when He spoke and said it’s time to start speaking to those dry bones.
As I look at this passage in Ezekiel here are some things that speak to me. First of all, the Lord carried him away to a valley filled with bones. He showed him the bones, that were once alive, they were not dried up and he asked him, “Can these bones live again?” The first thing I want you to do is allow the Lord to reveal to you the dried up bones in your life. The dreams and visions that you once had that have died. You may even be surprised at some things that you’ve forgotten about. Can those bones live again? The power is in your hands to prophecy over those dry bones and tell them to come to life.
“Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, Dry bones; listen to the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
The only person that can bring anything dead back to life is God. If you will prophesy to those things that have died in your life, your dead destiny, those bones will come together and He will breathe life back into your dreams and your destiny and it will live again! Then, you will know that He is God because He is the only one who can breathe life into dead situations.
Can you hear the bones rattling? Begin to prophesy over dry bones. Just like these bones represented the people of Israel, they will represent your destiny. You may feel like you’ve got some old dry bones and all hope is gone but the Lord is going to open up the graves of your life and you will rise again! Your dry bones can live again!
Agree with me in this prayer. Father, I thank you for destiny, dreams, and visions. I thank you that you have called each one of us to do a work for you, each one unique. I thank you Father that you have life giving abilities; only you can bring life to dead, dry bones. So right now I prophesy to dry bones in my own life and to those reading this. I say to dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to breathe life into your dry bones and I’m going to make them live again. I will breathe into you, and you will come to life! Every dream, every purpose, every destiny that you have that has dried up, I speak breath and I speak life into it. Dry bones, live again! In Jesus name, Amen!
