We ask for your prayers as we report that the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Downingtown to Morgantown is closed due to a multi-car crash in the westbound lanes following heavy snow.

A motorist who had gotten out of his car after a minor accident was hit and killed setting off a chain reaction crash involving about 50 cars. It is the largest among many crashes reported across the region today as drivers and road crews were caught off-guard by the intensity of the snowfall. Road conditions were treacherous, despite PennDOT’s preparations for the storm which began on Saturday. “We got the roads salted well for the transition,” said Gene Blaum, spokesman for PennDOT. “The intensity is just so strong.”

Snow started moving in just before noon and about an hour before that, PenDOT deployed 300 trucks to treat the roadways. By early afternoon, the full fleet of 415 trucks were working the roads. “It was supposed to be relatively light throughout the afternoon. This is a much heavier snowfall than what was predicted,” said Blaum.

We have no further information concerning injuries or fatalities at present but will try to bring you further information as it becomes available.

The snow was expected to start changing to sleet around 6 p.m. according to meteorologists.

We offer our prayers and condolences for anyone killed or injured due to this major storm and for their families.

After serving in the United States Navy for 22 years I retired from the service late in 1991. Having always loved the southwest, shortly after retiring, I moved to the Albuquerque area where I have resided since. Initially I worked as a contractor for approximately 6 years doing cable construction work. That becoming a little dangerous, at an elevated age, I moved into the retail store management environment managing convenience stores for roughly 16 years. With several disabilities, I am now fully retired and am getting more involved with helping Pastor Dewey & Pastor Paul with their operations at FGGAM which pleases my heart greatly as it truly is - "For God's Glory Alone". I met my precious wife Sandy here in Albuquerque and we have been extremely happily married for 18 years and I am the very proud father to Sandy's wonderful children, Tiana, our daughter, Ryan & Ross, our two sons, and proud grandparents to 5 wonderful grandchildren. We attend Christ Full Deliverance Ministries in Rio Rancho which is lead by Pastor's Marty & Paulette Cooper along with Elder Mable Lopez as regular members. Most of my time is now spent split between my family, my church & helping the Pastors by writing here on the FGGAM website and doing everything I can to support this fantastic ministry in the service of our Lord. Praise to GOD & GOD Bless to ALL! UPDATED 2021: Rick and Sandy moved to Florida a few years ago. We adore them and we pray for Rick as he misses Sandy so very, very much!

  1. There were four death in the accident total and in a circle of completely destroyed cars out car was one of two that were barely hit and was able to drive away. After being bored for about two hours we were talking with the other drivers in the accident and making jokes with the drivers that were recording and taking pictures of us on the other side of the barrier. There was only one person in our cluster (the one with the white liquefied petroleum truck in it) that had an injury but no one in our cluster had died.
