President Obama Leaves Out ‘God’ From Gettysburg Address Recitation

It may not come as a surprise that President Barak Obama when asked to recite the Gettysburg Address for a Ken Burns documentary left out the phrase “under God” from the ending.

WMAL reports:

Curiously enough, in his version of the speech, President Barack Obama’s delivery contained an omission – in a line that every other celebrity delivered as “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom,” the President left out the words “under God.”

In the documentary, Burns film each of the remaining presidents and several other celebrities recite the famous speech celebrating its 150 year anniversary today.

As this controversy rages, some historians point out that there are five versions of the speech that Lincoln signed, but the final version that is recognized by most is the version that includes this nation, under God. It is strange, I suppose, that the current president chose the only version that dropped God from our nation.

Here is the original full version of President Obama’s delivery.
