Israel Sends Assistance to the Philippines

Once again, the IsraAID international emergency relief agency was among the first to send teams to a major disaster area, arriving in Tacloban City in the storm-ravaged Philippines on Saturday night even as the mego-Typhoon Haiyan continued to wreak havoc in the island nation. Varying estimates have between 10-12,000 dead and many tens of thousands more injured as a direct result of the storm, while many more people have been made homeless and separated from their families, especially children. “It’s really hard to get any accurate numbers as far as [the scale of the] damage is concerned,” IsraAID founding director Shahar Zahavi said. “The immediate goal and first priority is to be aware of the whole injury side of the situation.
