CoupleMeNever having the gratification of seeing my own son, Thad, getting married, I packed all the emotion, exhilaration, pure pleasure and joy into the nuptials celebration of my adopted son Joe Aaron as he joined with Mercy, my new daughter.  Joe, is now close to 30 years old, born in Kenya, but has spent years in Uganda.  Then Mercy is a few years younger, born in Uganda, but was raised in Kenya.

Being apart of their unity and ceremony I was able to be proactive, searching for the bride’s perfect dress stateside and her trusting God first and me second to provide.  Oh my, I looked and looked for weeks, sent pictures of what I found and finally took the plunge and purchased what turned out to be the “Perfect Package”.  Thank you Jesus!!   What concern the Father, His Son has for our desires, even to the details of a wedding gown.

I bought a gown regal, traditional, ivory, originally constructed for a woman as one of a kind and is was just near perfect for Mercy’s size, aesthetic.  Included with the formal dress, lace, satin, bustle bow, was a head piece veil, a pillow for the rings with matching lace, shoes dyed to match that when Mercy tried on were Cinderella prefect!  What Goodness God has as two join in His Name to become one in love and service.

Mercy even sang, “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and led all attendees in this classic hymn.

In relationships I believe, not all moments are smooth and with Joe and Mercy, patience, yes, even long suffering has been exhibit for years, even up to the moments before the groom arrived, those qualities were being displayed by the bride.  BUT love, joy, peace triumphed and I proudly, enthusiastically was able to witness, applaud, cry, laugh, jump, pray, speak at a truly unforgettable holy sacrament.  One last interesting fact, after changing several times the date of the wedding, it ended up being on my own parents, Jack and Jean Goff’s wedding date, September 21st.  Their union went 60 years and I am hoping Joe and Mercy will have the devotion to one another as my parents did.  To God be the Glory!
