Westside Bear Captured

Dewey reported yesterday that a bear was jumping fences into yards on the West side of Albuquerque.

From KRQE:

The Department of Game and Fish officers already were in Jim Wolcott’s yard near Golf Course Road NW and Taylor Ranch road when he arrived early Saturday morning.  The female bear estimated to be 15 years old had taken refuge up a cottonwood tree.

The bear already had an ear tag, so game officers quickly figured out who she was.

“We caught her Aug. 23,” Officer John Marsh said.  “Another officer caught her in Albuquerque.  He took her to the southern Manzanos at that point, and she came back.”

The southern Manzano Mountains east of Belen would be roughly 40-50 miles from where the was found Saturday.

This time the bear will be released into the Jemez Mountains.

Also on Saturday a younger female bear was captured in northeast Albuquerque near Montgomery and Tramway not far from the Sandia Mountains foothills.

Both bears are healthy and will be released into the Jemez Mountains.
