I mentioned in a post at the Stop Predatory Gambling New Mexico website early in 2012 that a mid-level bureaucrat at the Justice Department had released an opinion that the Wire Act, the law that has criminalized Internet gambling and put some of their CEO’s in federal prisons, allowed certain forms of Internet gambling.  As a result, several states, including Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey, have passed laws allowing intrastate Internet gambling.  Some members of Congress are also submitting bills to legalize, regulate and tax Internet gambling on the federal level.

Our national organization, Stop Predatory Gambling, is working with members of Congress to submit legislation that would clarify and tighten up provisions in the Wire Act to criminalize All Internet gambling.  We have received support from opinion leaders around the country, but one of the most interesting developments is that Sheldon Adelson, owner of the Sands and Venetian casinos, has created a website titled Stop Internet Gambling.

It seems pretty ironic for Adelson to be putting out anti-gambling messages, but it is quite apparent that he’s worried about the competition undermining his brick-and-mortar casinos.  However, the video on the website is very good from a messaging point of view, and can be viewed by clicking here.
