NM Drought 2We must continue to pray for rain in New Mexico. As Governor Martinez travels the state and meeting with money bag Republicans in her re-election campaign, I pray she will take the lead in this effort to help New Mexico Communities that are in a water crises. The campaign season has started in New Mexico from Governor  to Mayor’s in New Mexico. Are we, the people of New Mexico better off than we were 3 to 4 years ago? I don’t think so, too much politics not enough off the peoples business being done by Republicans and Democrats, they spend most their time trying to get re-elected. In today’s Albuquerque Journal Senate Republican leader Stuart Ingle of Portales says campaigns like former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and present Governor Martinez are now common, he says the 24/7 campaigning by governors in New Mexico is part of a larger trend. In general he says elected officials , from the White House to statehouses, have become more concerned about campaigning for the next election and less focused on governing.  So what does this have to do with water? Everything! The bottom line is that the people’s business from water, to hungry children is not being addressed. Nearly 300 New Mexico community water systems are vulnerable to drought, dropping water tables and aging infrastructure, according to a review to be made public today by a state task force.

One of the most common problems, say officials involved in the review, occurs when a town or village depends on a single water source. If that becomes contaminated or runs dry, the community is in trouble.

A state program will help do the engineering work to identify a backup water source and the task force, led by the New Mexico Environment Department, will begin contacting at-risk communities this week with offers of helpAs an extended drought bakes the West, nowhere are ravages of changes in the climate worse than in New Mexico.

I pray that all these Political folks keep their eyes on Jesus Christ, and have our Lord guide them to what His business is, not theirs. If they do not know the Lord, pray with me that they will come to Him!
