Sunni Rae Reza, 8, was killed when a group of men shot several bullets at a car where she was a passenger near Gonzales Road and Coors Boulevard. She would’ve celebrated her 9th birthday on Sunday, Albuquerque police said.

Her father, uncle and another man were also in the car. No one else was hurt and it’s unclear the motive for the shooting.

After the shooting, the driver took Reza and her father to a nearby fire station. As the driver left, an ambulance arrived to take the girl to the hospital and the father stayed behind to be interviewed by police.

Reza died at the hospital.
