Explosion reported near finish line of Boston Marathon, spokesman says

A federal law-enforcement source told The Post there are at least 2 dead and nearly 50 injured. Fox News reported that Massachusetts General Hospital was treating 10 people with amputated limbs and all operating rooms were on hold.

Law-enforcement sources said at least the first explosion occurred in the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel.

“There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today’s Boston Marathon,” The Boston Marathon’s official Facebook page read. “We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened.”

According to reports, authorities in Boston found a third explosive device that had not gone off and police were going to perform a controlled explosion. The airspace above the city was ordered cleared as well.

Later, police confirmed that another explosion took place at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, and there were media reports that an undetonated device was found under a grandstand at the marathon.

According to the Globe, 19 injured people were initially transported to nearby Massachusetts General Hospital, six of them in critical condition.

Citing Law enforcement sources, the New York Post and Fox News reported that authorities have identified a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. The suspect is currently being guarded in a Boston hospital with shrapnel wounds.

“The suspect — a Saudi national who suffered shrapnel wounds in today’s blast — is currently being guarded in a Boston hospital,” the Post reports.

At least two people have been confirmed dead by the Boston Police Department, however, the estimates are not final. Another federal law enforcement source told the Post that there are at least 12 dead and almost 50 injured. In a press conference Monday, police said they couldn’t immediately release an official death toll or the number of people injured in the explosions.

DEVELOPING: The Boston Marathon headquarters has been locked down after two explosions were reported near the finish line, a spokesman told Reuters.

Witnesses reportedly heard two booms near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel that sounded like two claps of thunder.

The Associated Press says there are reports of injuries.
