Mississippi is the most religious state in the United States, according to a recently released Gallup poll.

Fifty-eight percent of residents there said they are “very religious,” meaning religion is very important in their daily life and they attend religious services every week.

The least religious state is Vermont, with 19 percent of residents saying they are very religious.

Overall, 40 percent of Americans say they are very religious, while 31 percent described themselves as non-religious.
