The 1947 one-minute newsreel features an interview in London’s Dorchester Hotel conducted by John Parsons. Sanger is referred to as “Margaret Slee,” reflecting her second marriage to James Slee.

Parsons mistakenly said that Sanger had suggested European women have no children for the next 10 years. In fact Sanger, a committed eugenicist, had proposed women in the developing world cease all reproduction for the coming decade.

Nonetheless, she calmly defended her population control policy while sipping tea with Parsons.

When asked whether it may not be “impractical” to ask such a thing of women who want to become mothers but would be infertile in 10 years, Sanger responded coolly, “I should think instead of being impractical, it is really very practical and intelligent and humane.”
