Surrounded by Zombies!

Zombies

IF you are a fan of  “The Walking Dead”, you know that Sunday, February 9th, the series returns to continue the gripping moments of the last episode aired in December.  But zombies, s.e?  You are questioning.  Yes and NO!  I have not followed the show since the first, BUT once saw the episode from season two’s opener, I found it drawing me in.  Somewhere out of the country I saw that episode and went online to read about the series and episodes.  After that I never saw another one or sought to watch online.

Then this past fall as season four was about to start, there was a marathon of season three and the hook sunk deep into me to watch.  IT IS NOT THE ZOMBIES!!  It is the characters, the scenario of something happening in the world and survivors fighting to stay alive, to relate to one another, to care for one another, to fight against one another to protect what bit of security was being established, that was what made this program something to watch, discuss, think about.

In our security, especially in the United States, we think nothing can happen and as stated  in the Bible the end times will come quickly, people will be having a party, sleeping in their beds, holding hands, arguing, cheating, lying, stealing, loving one another.  Throughout the Old and New Testament it is prophesied that the population will be dramatically reduced, chaos and terror will reign, you know creating havoc, fear for many.

Even now I see the zombies as being the evil that carries out the plan of the enemy to kill, destroy and they are driven without feelings or sense of who they were before because that is gone, there is no turning back.  In season two there is a zombie stuck in the mire and without a visible prey, yes it struggles but there is no target.  THEN when a target is in sight, how the evil fights to get to that person and destroy him.  The target moves out of danger, but the motivation is there and the zombie frees itself to attack and fulfill its driven purpose.

So why do I feel like I am surrounded by zombies?  Just recently I was working in Guatemala and came back through Florida to see friends, visit a sponsoring church for a few days.  Something happened that I saw a man like a zombie, oh he did not physically reach out to try to destroy me BUT the words, the posturing, the guise, the cunningness of being one person, but underneath being truly something else was evident.  After speaking with him for an hour and standing my ground as I will not be intimated, I said I had no desire to speak to another man again!! I know a bit extreme.

Fortunately as I sat in the airport to fly out of Florida, I thought of Pastor Mark Scales and what a godly man he is, then Pastor Dewey Moede came to mind.  I had to immediately text the both of them to let them know how glad I am to know the example of their lives and the fervor they have to be true salt and light to those around them.

Zombies, I think will never exist as portrayed, but the concept of evil, the spirit to take your life, destroy your confidence, tear your flesh so you are not successful in your service to Christ is very real.  IF you stand for righteousness watch for zombies and stay close to what is uplifting, encouraging, strengthening your faith and hope in what IS truly authentic!!
