(Rome) — There could be some big changes in store for women in the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Francis says women could have a bigger presence in the church’s hierarchy. In an interview this week with an Italian newspaper, the Pope mentioned that women can have more decision-making power. Some church leaders have been advocating making women deacons, who can assist at Mass and perform baptisms. The Pontiff may also shake up how the church approaches divorced couples and their families. He praised a senior German cardinal’s suggestion that remarried couples could rejoin the fold through confession.
