Illinois Governor Pat Quinn holds up the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act after signing it into law at a ceremony in Chicago, Illinois, November 20, 2013.

This week, Illinois became the 16th state to legalize homosexual marriage. The state’s Gov. Pat Quinn calling it an “epic victory” for America, but a non-profit law group has warned that the new law may threaten religious freedom for those opposed to the practice in their everyday life.

We have seen the same problem start to surface in New Mexico, when a photographer refused to take pictures of a same sex “commitment” ceremony. The state court ruled that the constitutional right to freedom of religious must be limited in favor of so-called human rights.

The new law in Illinois, which ran as Senate Bill 10 sponsored by State Senator Heather Steans (D-Chicago) and State Representative Greg Harris (D-Chicago), guarantees equal access to status, benefits, protections, rights and responsibilities for all couples entering into marriage and their families.

And although the new law promises to protect religious freedom, non-profit law firm the Thomas More Society has argued that it is not fair to people with religious convictions.

“Because the general assembly left out specific protections for individuals, businesses, religious organizations, and religious charities, we will have to discover the boundaries of this act through litigation,” said Peter Breen, vice president and senior counsel of the Thomas More Society.

Tom Brejcha, president and chief counsel at the Thomas More Society, added that “the idea that free people can be ‘compelled by law to compromise the very religious beliefs that inspire their lives’ as the ‘price of citizenship’ is a chilling and unprecedented attack on freedom.”

What many, even Christians, fail to understand is that the same sex marriage issue is nothing but a Trojan horse. The battle is not really about gay couples having the right to marry. As I have stated before, only a small number, less than 1%, of the population desire to marry. This is about silencing God and those that hope to live life His way.

The relative silence of pastors and other religious leaders is deafening as our rights are destroyed and no one dares to cry out. Not so slowly but surly the US is being changed, it is no longer the home of the free or the brave. Soon will follow enslavement.
