The Global Gambling Expo (G2E), the big international gambling industry convention in Las Vegas, having the express purpose of exploiting the public, came up with one good prediction:  Federal approval and regulation of online gambling is even less likely this year than it was two years ago, when the Poker Player’s Alliance made the big push in Congress to get it legalized.  Major criminal activity in the “industry” that was discovered and prosecuted about that time had much to do with the steam running out of their push.

The movie, “Runner, Runner,” coming out on October 4, starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, will illustrate the criminal ethos of the whole online gambling racket.

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has been coming out with marketing PR advertisements, framing the film as a “cautionary tale,” advocating…guess what?..the legalization and regulation of online gambling to get rid of criminal activity, and keep kids and addicts off of the websites.

Where teens infiltrate brick and mortar casinos by the tens of thousands each year, and millions of gambling addicts are not only NOT discouraged, but encouraged to become more addicted, we’re expected to believe that online casinos will be willing and/or able to do a better job of screening out teens and addicts?

Every study conducted on crime and gambling has shown the crime escalates inside and around casinos, and we’re expected to believe that hackers and crooks will be unable to get around the Ethernet cops?

Legalization and regulation of online gambling is not the answer.  The only rational answer is criminalization of all online gambling.

An article on the G2E meeting about the struggling online effort can be found at the Legal US Pokersites website.
