Frederick and Carey GonzalesNew Mexico, especially Albuquerque, is seeing more of the adults trusted with it’s children violate that trust with sexual deviancy. The latest example is a couple at the center of a child porn case that shocked the community of Albuquerque.

Frederick Gonzales was set to be the president of Albuquerque’s youth football league. Carey Gonzales worked in a kindergarten classroom. They were given access to the very children they desired to exploit and now, they’re heading to federal prison.

Investigators said there was large amount of child porn and other types of sick things found inside their northeast Albuquerque home.

“They did both admit to viewing the images that were recovered,” Sgt. Aaron Williamson with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said back in January.

Frederick, who was set to be the president of the city’s Young America Football League, got 8 years.

Shortly after the allegations, he was stripped of his YAFL title. YAFL officials couldn’t believe it.

“We thought it was some sort of cruel prank when we first heard about it,” Jim Summer, President of Albuquerque YAFL said in January.

“Then we were stunned when we realized it was true, and shocked and speechless.”

Carey, who worked in an APS kindergarten classroom as a teacher’s aide, was sentenced to 36 months in jail. Both pleaded guilty after making a deal in May. The pair initially entered not guilty pleas in January after authorities said the couple downloaded child porn and watched the videos.

The charges against Frederick and Carey Gonzales were the result of an undercover investigation initiated by the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office in September 2012 that identified an IP address subscribed to Frederick Gonzales as one that was used to possess, receive, and distribute child pornography.

They were able to trace a computer address back to the Gonzales’ residence. A search warrant turned up computers and hundreds of DVDs containing child porn, with kids as young as 3-years-old.

The couple, who told investigators they would download and watch child porn daily, often viewed it together.

In a letter from Frederick’s attorney filed last week, he asked the court they be allowed to communicate with each other while locked up, saying “during that period, they would like to maintain a written correspondence in order to maintain their spousal relationship.”

In addition to his 97 months in federal prison, Frederick will be on supervised release for 15 years. On top of that, the couple must pay $500 in restitution.

The couple must register as sex offenders once they’re out of prison.

I am reminded that Jesus said it would be better for these two would have been better off to put a mill stone around their neck and jumped in the deepest part of the ocean than to have hurt even the least of our children.
