ALBUQUERQUE CITY COUNCILORS HARRIS AND SANCHEZ
ANNOUNCE LEGISLATION OPPOSING THE DECISION TO ALLOW COPS TO FILM

Albuquerque, NM – City Council President Ken Sanchez and Councilor Don Harris have
introduced legislation concerning the recent decision of Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston.

“The decision to allow the reality television show COPS to film in Bernalillo
County was reckless and irresponsible. Sheriff Houston made this decision
without consulting with other elected representatives of either Bernalillo County
or the City of Albuquerque. I do not support the decision and I urge him to
reconsider because job creators looking to open up shop in Albuquerque or
Bernalillo County will see this and it could determine if they come here or not.
This is a risk with no obvious reward and I don’t see the reasoning behind using
our officers as reality TV stars.” Councilor Harris

At a press conference held on Sunday in front of City Hall, Councilors Harris and Sanchez
denounced the decision and discussed the negative effects the decision will have on our
community.

“At a time like this, our economy is struggling to gain any ground. We cannot
afford to have a reality television show come into our community and film the
very worst parts of it. Real crime should not be used for entertainment or profit,
and I believe that Sheriff Houston made the wrong choice and I ask him as a City
Councilor, resident of this community, and most of all father and grandfather to
reconsider.” Councilor Sanchez

The legislation will be heard at the full City Council meeting on Monday March 3rd
.
