FGGAM just received this news release from Congressman Pearce:

PEARCE STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT TRUMP’S VISIT TO THE SOUTHERN BORDER

Washington, DC (August 22, 2017) Congressman Steve Pearce released the following statement after President Trump and members of his Administration visited the U.S. Border Patrol’s Yuma Sector in Yuma, AZ:

“I fully support securing the border – it is imperative for the safety and security of New Mexico and our nation. I appreciate the President taking the time to visit border communities to better understand the unique challenges that people, families, border patrol agents, and local governments face on a day-to-day basis. We must work to establish a viable strategy to secure the border that includes the use of modern technology and revitalizes how Border Patrol Agents operate. I will continue working with my colleagues in Congress and the Administration to enact policies that work for the nation, border communities, and the men and women securing the border,” stated Rep. Pearce.

Background:

Since the Bush Administration, Congressman Pearce has been urging the Department of Homeland Security and the White House to modernize the way Border Patrol operates, instead of focusing on the construction of a wall. In July, Congressman Steve Pearce voted against a procedural motion in the House of Representatives that added full funding for the construction of a physical border wall to the national security appropriations bill without debate or a vote.
