Pastor Richard Mansfield of New Beginnings Church in Albuquerque posted this prayer on his Facebook page as the riots broke out:

Father, bring peace and order back to the streets of Albuquerque. Keep all of the Peace Officers safe and keep Your hedge of protection around them as they try to bring order back to Albuquerque. Bring these protesters back to their senses so that they might repent of their behavior and begin the represent Albuquerque with dignity. I pray in Jesus name, Amen!

Police threw smoke devices and used what appeared to be pepper spray on crowds in Albuquerque on Tuesday after protests near a Donald Trump event turned violent, officials said.

About 100 protesters broke through barricades and approached the convention center as Trump took the stage, the Albuquerque Journal reported. None entered the building. Windows in the building were broken by what the newspaper said it believed to be pellet guns.

“Several” officers were injured after being hit by rocks, and at least one person was arrested, according to authorities.

Police denied there were gunshots and said said they didn’t use tear gas on protesters.

At around 8 p.m., protesters opposed to the presumptive GOP nominee rushed past a barricade and officers in riot gear were called in to block the locked entrance of the venue where the rally was being held.
