The Pope and Palestine!
This past week, the Vatican announced that it had reached an agreement with the “State of Palestine” concerning the status of Catholic properties in the Holy Land. The move was criticized by Israeli officials, who described it as a premature decision which would only encourage the Palestinians to continue avoiding direct peace talks with Jerusalem. And to make matters worse, Pope Francis then hosted Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Rome, where he welcomed him by calling him an “angel of peace”. This also upset many Israeli leaders, who view Abbas as actually doing everything he can to block a negotiated peace with Israel. So both moves have raised some serious questions about the Vatican’s agenda, such as why did they recognize a Palestinian state at this time? What does the agreement with the Palestinians actually contain? Will it make it harder to now renew direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians? And has Mahmoud Abbas truly been working for peace between the two sides? The Pope and Palestine! That’s our focus this week here on Front Page Jerusalem. We’ll hear from a leading Israeli expert on the Vatican about the significance of the recent agreement between the papacy and the Palestinian Authority. Our special guest will be Rabbi David Rosen, who oversees interfaith activities for the American Jewish Committee and is also known as the ‘Pope’s Rabbi.’

On today’s show, we’re looking at the recent agreement the Vatican signed with the state of Palestine which drew such sharp criticism from Israel. What is in the agreement itself, why did the Vatican do this now, and what impact will it have on peace prospects with Israel? To help us sort this all out, we turned this week to Rabbi David Rosen  of the American Jewish Committee, who helps spearhead Israel’s interfaith efforts and is widely known as the ‘Pope’s Rabbi.’

Foiled at FIFA!
This week, the international soccer federation FIFA was rocked by yet another major corruption scandal just as its global family was gathering in Zurich for their annual business meetings. The arrests and investigations into bribery charges will remain in the headlines for months to come, but there was also another controversy swirling around the football world at the very same time. And this was the bid by the Palestinian Authority to have Israel kicked out of FIFA. The Palestinians were trying to make Israel the only nation to be booted from FIFA in decades. But in the end, Palestinian sports official Jibril Rajoub was pressured by Western countries to back down and not mix politics and sports. The irony, however, is that the Palestinians are far more deserving of suspension from FIFA because of the way they use football and other sports to glorify terror and violence against Jews. So what were the reasons the Palestinians gave for wanting Israel suspended from international soccer competitions? Aren’t there even better grounds for the Palestinians to be expelled from FIFA? How do the Palestinians use sports to promote terrorism? And why were some Israelis insisting that Jibril Rajoub should be disqualified himself from taking part in international sporting decisions? Foiled at FIFA! That’s our focus next week here on Front Page Jerusalem. We’ll hear from a leading Israeli expert on the Palestinian Authority about why it should have been the Palestinians under threat of expulsion at the world football associations’ meetings this week. Our special guest will be Itamar Marcus, founder and director of Palestinian Media Watch, who has been closely monitoring the Palestinian Authority’s daily incitement against Israel for the past two decades.
