Attorney General Eric Holder Announces His Resignation – To Celebrate Or Speculate – That Is The Question

As this is more an opinion post than straight news, I first need to disclose – I am a registered independent voter who does lean to the conservative side but I am not trying to lean left or right here.

With that out of the way, let’s get the debate on. Eric Holder’s tenure as the United States Attorney General is historic for several reasons. The first Black American to hold the post and he is also the first U.S. Attorney General to be held in Contempt of Congress, not to mention a few other historic achievements including being a lightening rod of controversy.

The timing of Mr. Holder’s resignation does leave us with much to ponder however since it is so very close to the upcoming mid-term elections. It is believed that this issue is the reason the president returned to Washington taking a couple days out of one of his golfing vacation recently. However, during the announcement earlier today, I never heard a qualifying reason for exactly why he choose such a suspect time to announce his resignation.

Personally, I think his greatest achievement has been the ‘heavy cover’ he has provided his good friend, (almost like brothers), and boss, the President of the United States of America, Barrack H. Obama through quite a number of ‘fictitious scandals’ and some very controversial issues plaguing our great country still today.

Here are some of the speculated reasons for his resignation I’ve heard so far:

* He’s tired – meaning he wants to spend more quality time with his family. After all, he has been hard at work causing such controversy for a long hard six years now. I don’t think I need to specify exactly what ‘quality time with the family’ means these days…

* Troops (boots) on the ground – (a phrase which bothers me to start, they’re not boots – they’re United States Armed Forces Service men and women who make great sacrifice for us) – anyway, some believe he is upset with the probability that if the western world desires to defeat terrorism, troops would be required which is something he is against probably thinking that is a sign of his and his administrations inability to control terrorism through drones and the federal court system…

* The ‘October Surprise’ effect – Some, (such as myself), believe that with all the Congressional investigations on-going, he has received a heads up that in at least one of the many non-existent scandals the Congress is investigating, there may be evidence of his involvement of improper or illegal conduct. The surprise would be to have it announced in October, just prior to the mid-term elections which are already looking bad for the democratic party. By the way, a judge ruled this week that Holder must disclose the information that House Republicans have been demanding concerning the non-existent Fast & Furious scandal…

* A Congress controlled in both the House and the Senate by Republicans – seeing the probability that the mid-term elections will result in such a Congress, he may be concerned about his ability to continue to provide the ‘cover’ he has up until now for the president…

* His replacement – The timing is rather short, but the possibility exists that knowing he simply doesn’t want to do another two full years, the administration concluded that they needed to identify his replacement and try to achieve that person’s confirmation while the Democrats still control the Senate…

Then again, like I said before, maybe he really does just want to enjoy some quality time with his family, it is a possibility, even though he’d be leaving his best friend ‘hanging’ so to speak!

There, that ought to get some debate going – what’s your view? Feel free to provide us feedback in comments below. I’m sure there are more possibilities or ideas!
